David E James, head of operations for BM TRADA Certification Ltd since 2001, has been appointed managing director to succeed Hugh Taylor. He holds a Master’s Degree in Design Studies and is a member of both the Chartered Management Institute and Institute of Quality Assurance. He is also a fellow of the RSA.

Mr James’s experience of quality management systems started in the defence Industry, providing products and services built around defence and AQAP standards, the forerunner to quality management systems. From 1990 until 1995 he was assistant director of industry of the DTI Design Council, managing the ‘Enterprise Initiative Scheme’. He was then managing director of Bureau Veritas Quality International Ltd for five years before joining BM TRADA.

Hugh Taylor, who joined BM TRADA as managing director six years ago, left last month to join the Environment Agency. He will head up its National Laboratory Services division, which provides analytical testing through a network of regional laboratories.
