Joinery giant Jeld-Wen UK Ltd has installed a Biesse CNC router at its Boulton & Paul factory to increase productivity and improve the quality of stair case manufacturing.

The machine, a “major” investment, has been installed at the Melton Mowbray factory and is helping to alleviate potential bottle-necks in production.

It features a two-headed flat bed system, which is fully computerised for faster and more accurate machining of complex joinery work, and it enables the setting out of newels, handrail boring, and newel housing.

Jeld-Wen says the Biesse’s accuracy of working to a thousandth of a millimetre obviates the need for time-consuming fine sanding. Staff in the joinery section are now employed in other skilled areas, enabling the company to increase production and broaden its product offering into more bespoke areas.

The Biesse allows for computerised on-line design to production, as well as cutting down on waste materials. It also slots into the factory’s management system, which includes stock control, computer-aided design, estimating and sales order processing.
