The Grade 1 listed building, which has a history dating back to the first century BC, has more than 120,000 visitors a year and also hosts weddings and corporate events.

Becker Acroma’s 100% waterborne polyurethane Parquet One floor lacquer was used in the refurbishment which included the King’s Hall, at 250m2 the largest single floor area to be coated during the project.

Castle administrator Ron Bewley said: “With the amount of foot traffic we have at the castle, it is vital that our floors can stand up to it without being damaged. The finished floors look great. I am delighted that we have managed to achieve a durable finish whilst still maintaining an excellent appearance.

“The King’s Hall looks really striking.”

The refurbishment work was carried out by Alan Craig of Alnwick Flooring with Becker Acroma’s Parquet One lacquer supplied by Syntema North East Ltd.

Parquet One has high durability and low odour, making it ideal in situations where preservation is a key issue. It also meets BS 7044 (1990) for slip resistance.
