The Timber Industry Awards are nothing short of a celebration of the increasingly ambitious and technically challenging use of wood in architecture.

The event – known until this year as the Carpenter’s Awards – has always attracted some outstanding projects from the UK timber and construction community. But this year, they seem to have surpassed themselves. In the words of the Awards sponsors chairman Terence Mallinson, the competition has been ‘tremendous’.

‘The seven assessors had a task on their hands to choose the winners and the projects surely prove the environmental and economic benefits of the only renewable building material resource.’

The Awards are also clearly much sought after. This year there were 183 entries and the competition was backed by 17 sponsors among the ‘home and overseas industries and trades in forestry and timber and from their supporting institutes’. There was also ‘moral support’ from 26 other timber-related organisations and the presentation ceremony on Wednesday at the Carpenters’ Hall in London attracted an audience of 300, including architects, structural engineers, joiners, carpenters, contractors and building owners.

We only have room below for pictures of the winners, but a special magazine also featuring the short-listed entries can be obtained from Wood for Good on 020 7498 8211.
