Even small joinery companies are now considering de-skilling their operations and investing in automated machinery, according to UK agent Gerry Lynch.

Mr Lynch, who runs Shrewsbury-based Gerry Lynch Woodworking Machinery, was speaking from the Vertongen stand, where a CNC automatic window line was exhibited.

He said timber windows’ recent market resurgence had boosted sales of windows lines such as Vertongen’s Pentho 5.

New developments on the company’s lines include integrated routing and drilling modules for dowel boring and inserting hinges and ventilation holes. Servo controls are also fitted on modules for fast tool changes.

The window line shown at Ligna featured a fully automatic tenoner with automatic turntable and backing wood system. The turntable is also useful for producing large items such as garage doors and farm gates.

Other technology on show included tenoners from the Compact range and a twin spindle compact profiler, which resulted in considerable interest, with some machines being ordered.

Mr Lynch, UK agent for Vertongen and Magic Spa, said there were many serious buyers at the exhibition, adding: “I think it is a better show to come to than Woodmex. I think it’s due to that fact that people travel a lot longer distances to come here.”
