Arnold Laver Timber World has invested in a Weinig Powermat moulder with a 12in capacity to grow production and flexibility for its range of mouldings.

Weinig says the Powermat 1000, installed at Arnold Laver’s Manningham Sawmills in Bradford, is the first machine of its type in the UK.

The Powermat, which has seven tool holders, replaced an older 12x6in moulder and a smaller quick-set machine which could not meet current health and safety regulations.

The new technology features PowerLock tooling, enabling speeds of up to 12,000rpm to be achieved. Weinig says this makes it possible to run production at up to twice the feed speed of conventional moulders, effectively doubling output.

Arnold Laver said the machine is helping its linear mouldings business, where customer demands are changing, with faster deliveries, superior quality, shorter runs and a growing number of special profiles being regularly requested.

Operations director Mark Hay said: “Our big investment will benefit customers by giving them a competitively priced service and ability to respond quickly to their demands, providing a superior finish on 12in width timber.”

The Powermat’s high production output has led the company to replace both of its conventional moulders and use the operators more effectively.

Arnold Laver has also taken delivery of supporting toolroom equipment, including a Rondamat 960 profile grinder and the PowerCom tool setting system.
