The original structure was built in oak, but due to the high cost. the 7×3.5m replica farmhouse is being constructed in Douglas fir worth about £2,000 from the Duchess Drive plantation and sawn into 8x8in sections. The timber is protected with Arch‘s Tanalith E.

Sawmill manager Neville Henderson said: “Tanalith E can extend the lifespan of wooden structures such as this by three to four times longer than treated wood. It will add to the life of the building, reduce maintenance, increase safety and stand for longer and provide more people with information.”

Project leader Kristian Pedersen said he was surprised at what could be achieved using just saws and dowels. “Altogether, the entire original house would probably have been built in under three weeks.”
