Increased demand for the more environmentally-friendly Tanalith E CCA-free timber preservative has prompted Arch Timber Protection to convert one of its Tanalith C plants to the newer formulation.

Its Castleford, West Yorkshire site is now producing Tanalith E, leaving only Arch’s Wolverhampton and Preston sites to produce the copper chrome arsenic-based Tanalith C.

Tanalith E, widely used in Europe and approved in more than 15 countries throughout the world, is suited for use in and out of the ground and is said to be particularly suitable for wood used in outdoor applications such as decking and other garden products.

Arch product manager for Tanalith, Janet Brown said: ‘We have had a very positive interest in Tanalith E, especially from architects, since its introduction in the UK in March last year.

‘This will give more of our customers the chance to try out the new product.’
