Arch Coatings has relaunched its range of wood coatings for professional users under the Sayerlack brand.

Italian-based Sayerlack, which Arch acquired when it took over Hickson in 2000, will replace the trademarks Galstaff, Invele, Tecnoselect and ARE on mainland Europe.

In the UK, existing Arch professional products will be rebranded with new Sayerlack logos, but the Hickson name will continue to live on in the Hickson Decor and outdoor woodcare ranges for the DIY retail market.

Ian Hobday, managing director of Arch Coatings (UK) Ltd, said: “We must now bring together all of the research, development and product formulation gains that we’ve made during the past three years under the umbrella of a single brand that will encapsulate, for markets worldwide, the range and scope of achievements by Arch Coatings.”

Arch said the re-branding would help to better address disparate global markets and tastes, plus unify the technical and practical strengths of the products under a single instantly-recognisable and appealing style.

Water-based tinned products now have a blue logo, while solvent-based coatings have been given a red makeover.

The Sayerlack name was first born in 1954, when the company was formed in Pianoro. Its focus has widened from coatings for traditional joinery, veneers and furniture production to include wood-based panels.

On the research and development front, Sayerlack says it intends to expand water-based product research to reduce environmental emissions; extend UV drying and dual cure UV product options; increase the range of durability guarantees; formulate further fire retardant solutions; and develop relationships with other Arch Group divisions to improve the protection of wood.
