Swedish wood-based panel machinery and systems supplier Metso Panelboard is to upgrade Greece-based Alfa Wood – Pindos SA’s production facilities.

The contract, for an undisclosed sum, is designed to grow Alfa’s production to about 300m3 of MDF and light/ultra light MDF panels a day.

Metso will upgrade existing 1980s equipment and supply engineering for a debarking line, a new press including a Z-sifter, a Uniformer, a pre-press, a forming line, a Metso Contipress and press outfeed including in-line format saws.

The existing control system will be replaced by modern automation, including a programmable logical controller and human machine interface. Another new feature will be an EagleEye measuring and optimisation system for continuous in-line measuring of fibre quality, chemical and physical properties and resin content.

Equipment, which will use softwood as the main raw material, will be installed at the company’s Grevena plant during spring and summer, with start-up scheduled for September.
