Akzo Nobel‘s Sikkens range of wood coatings has been used to protect timber windows at an 18th century mansion designed by celebrated architect Robert Adam.

Joinery manufacturer the Linford Group made more than 70 windows for Compton Verney, Warwickshire, which is undergoing restoration to turn it into an art gallery.

Redecoration of existing windows involved one coat of Onol and two coats of Rubbol Satura in a special colour formulation to meet specifications of project architect Mark Evans of Rodney Melville and Partners.

The new windows, four single doors and three sets of double doors were finished with one coat of Rubbol WP170, a mid coat of WF370 and a final finish of Rubbol Satura applied on site. More than 5,100m2 of glass – enough to cover a football pitch – was used in the project.

John Hanner of Linford said: “The windows present a very prominent focus and therefore it was essential to replace or repair them using materials that would complement the style and character of the orginal building.”
