Akzo Nobel is to create a stand-alone wood finishes and adhesives business as part of a group portfolio realignment.

Due to come into effect on January 1, 2010 the change is designed to bring more focus to the “significant” wood finishes and adhesives market.

John Wolff, currently general manager of the coil coatings business, will become managing director of the new Wood Finishes and Adhesives business.

Akzo’s wood finishes and adhesives are used in exterior joinery, furniture, panels and flooring and include the Sikkens, Sadolin and Casco brands.

Other changes include a restyled industrial coatings division and the merger of polymer chemicals activities into the functional chemicals organisation.
