Titan Wood has secured an order for 1,200m3 of Accoya from the Dutch government for the prestigious new bridges across the A7 in the city of Sneek.
Each measuring 20m high by 40m long, the bridges are due for completion by 2009. The Accoya, created through a process of wood acetylation, will be supplied from Titan Wood’s new 30,000m3 production facility in the Netherlands.
Project manager, Sieds Hoitinga, said several independent European research institutes were contracted to test Accoya’s suitability for the project.
“After rigorous testing we found that its dimensional stability and durability put it head and shoulders above other species and showed that it is suitable for laminating in large sections measuring 1080x1400mm.”
BSW is the exclusive supplier of Accoya in the UK and Ireland and is working with Sikkens to offer solutions to joinery firms.
