Production at AC Roof Trusses, Welshpool, has shifted up a gear following the opening of a 525m2 factory dedicated to the manufacture of Posi-Joist roof and floor beams.

The facility, which opened in January and cost nearly £250,000, has doubled capacity and is designed to meet increasing demand from the timber frame industry for the products.

Two 15m long Mitek Strut-Runner automated presses form the focal point of the factory. They can assemble pre-fabricated floor cassettes, a new development for the company. Ring beams, bracing, noggins and floor decks are all put together under factory conditions, then loaded in sequence onto lorries ready for easy unloading and installation on site.

Previously the company could only dispatch single beams to construction sites, and these will continue to be supplied.

Andrew Carrington, designer at AC Roof Trusses, said the manufacture of floor cassettes represents a key development for the business.

He said: “We are responding to the needs of the timber frame companies requiring more modular items.”
