Among Econergy Ltd’s projects is a 700kW fully-automatic wood-fuelled boiler to provide heat for Worcestershire County Hall. Installation, operation, maintenance and fuel supply are all provided by Econergy under a 10-year contract and heat is sold to the council at a tariff competitive with energy from fossil fuels. The boiler produces 1-1.3 million kWh of heat per year.

Using wood from local forestry operations, the system consumes around 600 tonnes of wood fuel a year, reducing CO2 emissions by around 550 tonnes. The council hopes the project will stimulate demand for the technology.

The Compte Compact C70DHV is rated 85% efficient at full output on fuel with a 45% moisture content. The maximum moisture content is 60%. The fuel is delivered using the company’s hook-lift bin system and stored in two 35m3 storage bins which automatically feed the fuel to the boiler.

Econergy has also provided a 250kW fully automatic boiler for the EcoTech Centre and Business Park in Swaffham, Norfolk. The boiler delivers 500,000kWh of heat per year using approximately 200 tonnes of wood fuel and avoids around 150 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Econergy can supply 10,000 tonnes of wood fuel a from forestry operations throughout England.

In terms of capacity, Econergy can cater for heating applications of less than 100kWh through to multi-megawatt steam boilers or CHP plants. It provides automated boiler plants from Veto and Compte and a Turboden ORC turbogeneration CHP system.
