The company celebrated the milestone by presenting Mr Gibbins with a teak garden bench complete with plaque. All the staff then enjoyed a fish and chips lunch.
MH Southern is the only remaining timber importer on Tyne Dock and is one of the Port of Tyne’s oldest tenants, having been on the site since June 1, 1963. Mr Gibbins is the only member of staff who served with the company at its old premises on Skinnerburn Road, Newcastle Quayside.
Making his presentation speech, James Southern, managing director of MH Southern, said that loyalty was a special commodity and Mr Gibbins had shown unbelievable loyalty to the company over such a long period.
