Hoteliers in Llandudno were told they would have to rip out PVCu replacement windows to preserve the Victorian character of the resort. A rebellion has led Conwy County Borough Council to relent on immediate enforcement.
The council has said it will continue its stance on timber windows, but has said hoteliers will not have to rip out windows fitted more than 30 years ago, but use timber at the next refurbishment.
Those replaced more recently will be subject to negotiation on a timetable and for non-listed buildings no action will be taken if the work was completed more than four years ago.
"Owners will be encouraged to change their windows to timber at the next window change," a spokesperson said.
