Stella-Jones, a joint venture owned by Scottish sawmiller James Jones & Sons Ltd and Italy-based Stella SpA, bought Washington state-based McFarland for an undisclosed sum.
Founded in 1916, McFarland supplies utility poles, crossarms and piling, as well as treated lumber for outdoor home projects, including composite decking, railings and accessories.
Its four wood treating facilities are located in Washington, Oregon, Mississippi and British Columbia. Annual sales last year reached US$280m.
“The acquisition of McFarland further enhances the range of Stella-Jones’ offerings in the North American wood treating industry,” said Brian McManus, president and chief executive officer of Stella-Jones.
