The company, which supplies worktops, sheet materials, flooring and kitchen and bathroom products, acquired the 40,000ft2 property next to its existing 60,000ft2 base near Halesowen.

The investment, facilitated by HSBC Commercial Bank, enables the company to operate with greater efficiency as it had been leasing three sites around the Halesowen area.

Now it can operate from one site. Adrian Gill, HSBC Birmingham area commercial director, said the investment marked the next positive stage in the company’s development.

“It is this tenacity and vision that has enabled the company to weather the tough economic conditions of the past few years,” he said.

Blackheath was founded in the 1930s as a timber component supplier to the furniture industry and then became a distributor of Formica decorative laminate in the 1950s.

The £21m turnover company boasts one of the largest stock holdings of decorative laminate and solid wood surfacing held at one location in the UK. Its clients include housebuilders, kitchen manufacturers, builders merchants, retailers and shopfitters.
