Ian Gambles, previously director of national infrastructure at the Planning Inspectorate, has experience in both the public and private sectors, including HM Treasury and as a management consultant. His 12 years in consultancy were focused principally on developing and implementing strategy in the public sector. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

Forestry Commission director-general Tim Rollinson retires at the end of this month and he has performed many of the duties of director England. The director-general post is not being replaced. Operationally Forestry Commission England is currently led by chief executive Simon Hodgson who will take up the role of chief executive Forest Enterprise, responsible for the public forest estate in England.
