The contract was received by the TTF recently without any prior warning. The TTF’s National Softwood Division (NSD) expressed disappointment not to have been warned discussions were under way or to have been offered the opportunity for any input.
It said the new contract was likely to have a direct impact on the NORSOF softwood contract, launched by the TTF in 2005.
The NSD said it will not recognise the new contract and will discuss the issue further at a sub-committee meeting before a meeting with Nordic timber federations is held.
Mr White’s comments will form part of a European Timber Trade Federation formal response.
