A MAKA CNC router has replaced seven machines at a Bridgend joinery manufacturer.

Mel Wake Joinery Ltd says the five-axis machine is producing more work in two days than previously manufactured in one month.

Company owner Mel Wake said: “It has given me the facility to focus more on one-offs and specials and, for example, to manufacture a wide variety of bespoke products from staircases and windows to special commissions like a new prototype electronic guitar design.”

The MAKA PM270 CNC router features 24,000rpm motors, together with Compass software and AlphaCAM, a 32-position automatic toolchanger, 6m-long bed for long components, laser positioning and a modem for service help from MAKA in Germany.

Mr Wake, who has been in business for more than 25 years, said the MAKA now enables him to attract complex original design work. He is planning to build a new factory this year.
