The company’s new TREAT-RIGHT warranty scheme follows the introduction of Tanalith E 8000 into the UK and Ireland.

The warranties will be either 10 or 15 years against decay and insect attack depending on the species being treated and Use Class of the treated timbers.

John Abbott, Lonza UK and Ireland sales manager, said over 20 years of commercial Tanalith E use around the world, coupled with product field trials of more than 10 years on multiple global testing sites had given the company real confidence in its performance credentials, particularly in ground contact applications. Tanalith E 8000 features BARmine technology designed to improve protection levels.

"Along with recent developments on incising of timbers and clear guidance to our customers on penetration and rentention treatment levels relative to different species, we feel the new TREAT-RIGHT warranty scheme will give our markets renewed confidence in treated fencing and landscaping timbers," he said.

Increasing reports of premature fence post failures have been reported in the UK in recent years, which many fencing contractors have blamed on the new post-CCA generation of timber preservatives, though preservative manufacturers have pointed out that the combination of correct treatment cycles, and wood species use, together with the right preservatives and Use Class product specfication are all important to ensure performance.

The Lonza group has also released its annual results, which says its wood treatment business was "ahead of target" for 2012.

The results show increased demand in North American residential and industrial markets, together with strong traditional preservative volumes in South Africa, was sufficient to offset pricing pressure in North America and softer demand during the second half in both North America and Europe.

Lonza said its European sales still managed to meet expectations due to the steady growth in demand in northern Europe for traditional active ingredients, along with strong performance of the fire retardant and formulated product business.
