Sayerlack, a brand of Arch Chemicals‘ coating division, is using a new tintometric system for formulating wood coating colours.

Italy-based Sayerlack’s computerised spectrophotometry system is designed to reproduce virtually any colour sample produced by customers, using pre-formulated colours stored in the system’s memory.

The tintometric system analyses the colour sample, prepares a formula, weighs the primary materials and produces the desired quantity of the pigmented coating. It can produce 25 litres in 1-2min.

Pastes are dispensed into the base product with the volumetric dosing method, which Sayerlack says is more efficient and accurate than the gravimetric one. Computers keep the dispensing machine running 24 hours a day in order to agitate the pastes continuously.

Sayerlack says it is a modular system which can be further expanded to include new coatings families or gloss levels required by the market.
