Provincial governor Irwandi Yusuf said an action plan would be issued to implement a moratorium. All logging actitivies, even those by forest concession holders, would then be considered illegal.
The Indonesian Forum for the Evnironment has advocated a moratorium in the province since 2000.
It says logging is harming the environment and contributing to disasters such as landslides.
