The practice will use the system, developed by Sheffield Insulations Group and Cox Bench for 40 council homes and YMCA rented accommodation.

A three-and-a-half storey Insulshell installation – called Homeshell – has been temporarily erected outside the Royal Academy in London. Inside visitors will be able to see a time-lapse film of its construction and see how the building system fits together.

“The Homeshell delivers generous space, exceptional insulation, daylight and acoustics,” said Ivan Harbour, senior partner at Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners.

“We believe it holds many answers for well designed and sustainable urban living and could change the way we think about our housing into the future,” he said.

The architect trialled Insulshell several years ago in its Oxley Woods development near Milton Keynes.
