The installation will take place during the first half of 2014 and is part of Setra’s ongoing efficiency programme aimed at improving the company’s competitiveness.

The investment includes the latest visual grading technology from FinSCan, plus CGV’s mechanical engineering and automation system.

Major benefits will include an improvement in quality consistency and lower production costs.

Farila sawmill manager Mattias Forslund admitted times were hard in the timber industry but the company had to keep pace with new technological developments.

"The market for the Helsinge spruce is good and, combined with stable raw material flows and competent, motivated employees, we are now investing for the future," he said.

"Higher raw material volumes from the forest have led to a 25% increase in production at Färila sawmill during 2013. This investment in automated sorting is strategically important since it will enable the unit to be used more effectively and produce an even better result."

CGV, based in Vislanda in southern Sweden, has supplied timber handling equipment for many of the large Nordic sawmillers, including Stora Enso, Holmen, Vida, Södra and Rörvik.
