The federation said shortages would be caused by a shortage of softwood logs in Austria – a main supplier of wood to Italy.
A decrease in production of material for glulam beams in Austria means less lower quality material was available for other sectors of the timber industry, such as pallet manufacture.
Italy’s pallet manufacturing sector has already seen prices increases of €15 per m3 in 2013.
