The funds are coming from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB), which will work in partnership with the STA to provide training for timber frame erectors.

The STA has also recently had its Timber Frame Competency Award Scheme aligned to the Construction Skills Card Scheme.

STA chief executive Andrew Carpenter said it was "essential" to ensure the skillset of timber frame constructors was of high quality to support the increasing use of timber in construction.

The CITB funding will support a continuation of the STA’s management and supervisory mentoring scheme and erector workshops which have run in 2012 and 2013.

A further 15 workshops are planned for 2014, which should see more than 150 construction companies and 300 individuals taking part throughout the UK.

Companies interested in attending workshops can contact Andrew Carpenter at andrew.carpenter@structuraltimber.co.uk or for the CITB scheme contact Diane Wood at diane.wood@citb.co.uk.
