In ‘TTF codes on track for April launch’ (TTJ February 16), Paul Martin, director-general of the Timber Trade Federation, said at the BCWTA annual dinner that ‘the codes of practice will give a direct commercial advantage over competitors who do not belong to the federation’. This seems to me to be a reasonable statement as companies outside the TTF will not be ‘robustly policed’.
However, he continues: ‘They [the codes] will differentiate members from the cowboys’.
I hope that Mr Martin did not intend to imply that those of us in the UK trade fall into two categories – on the one hand TTF members and on the other, ‘cowboys’, but I’m afraid that’s how it read.
