Three companies Timco, Dura Composites and Kinley Systems were virtually unchallenged by timber companies as they sought to win over construction sector visitors with their message of product low maintenance, stability and durability.

Timco displayed a notice saying its products would be stocked by B&Q nationwide from April 1 in a deal which also sees the DIY retailer create display areas featuring the product in its stores.

Timco sales director Steve Barrow said the Stevenage company, which imports its product from Asia, had built a £2m annual turnover business in just two years. Its rapid growth necessitated a recent move to a new warehouse three times the size of its former premises.

Mr Barrow said Timco had just secured a £250,000 contract for a large volume of product for a multiuse development at Baltimore Wharf on the Isle of Dogs. And he believes there is significant further market potential for the product.

"In France, the wood-plastic composite decking market represents about 15% of the decking market," said Mr Barrow. "In the UK it is less than 1%."

An additional boost is news that NHBC’s warranty now covers the Timco decking product.

It’s not just decking that the composite product suppliers are pushing into. Both Timco and Dura Composites are knocking on the door of the cladding sector.

Dura Composites, based at Clacton-on-Sea, recently diversified into cladding. At Ecobuild it showed its range of products which has been installed as far afield as Turkmanistan, Beijing and Iraq.
