Visitors included joiners, furniture makers and builders. They were shown the capabilities of Blumsom’s wider machining operation by the company’s and Weinig personnel, but the focus was the new Cube, which is designed for short runs, with virtually no set-up time thanks to its simple programming and fully motorised positioning.

"The Cube’s versatility and speed Cube inspired us to offer the one-hour service," said Blumsom managing director Mark Price. "It’s been taken up by small builders, DIYers and even contractors who need it now."

Michael Weinig UK managing director Malcolm Cuthbertson said businesses of Blumsom’s scale represented a growing market for the £30,000 Cube, of which 200 have been sold worldwide.

"It appeals to smaller workshops because of its ease of use and compact footprint," he said. "But we’re also seeing larger processors installing them to complement bigger machines and offer a more flexible, and one-off service – as Blumsom has done with its one-hour milling."
