Mr Guðmundsson was presented with a certificate by Norvik Timber Industries CEO Sampsa Auvinen during the company’s market meeting in its Reyjkavik offices in May.

The business, now the largest distributor of building materials in Iceland, was founded by Jón Helgi’s father and uncle in 1962 under the name Byko-Iceland.

The company grew as a retailer in food, electronics and sporting equipment and, in 1993 Byko-Lat in Latvia was established as the first offshore venture. The business continued to expand into several countries, including the UK, and today it includes Vika Wood in Latvia, Laesti Estonia, Jarl Timber Sweden, Norwood in Russia, and CWP and Norvik Shipping in the UK.
