At its Hull site the company has invested in new tanks, a new lorry and computerised adminstrative processes to improve efficiency and provide more timely information. At Rochester a second shift has been introduced so the site treats from 7am until 3am, enabling it to accommodate the increased demand in the busy south-east.
"As the economic outlook improves, we’re committed to growing our capacity and facilities so we are able to cater for our customers’ increasing needs," said managing director Mark Eggleston.
He told TTJ that earlier in the year there was strong demand for Use Class 4 treatment for fencing and rails, and now WJ Group was seeing throughput of carcassing and decking for the housebuilding market – and sleepers.
There was also good demand for low pressure treatment for roof trusses and floor joists, reflecting improving housebuilding activity.
WJ has also confirmed that it will continue to offer a BASF Wolman-backed 10-year warranty on non-incised redwood timber posts following the May update to the BS 8417 post treatment standard.
Under the latter, all posts treated to National Highways Sector Scheme 4 (NHSS4) must be incised on exposed heartwood surfaces, and, in line with this, WJ provides a 15-year warranty for NHSS4 treatment on all incised posts.
In addition, it treats to Use Class 3 and 4 backed by a 10-year warranty and it will continue to support this on non-incised redwood posts.
"This means in practice we’ll continue to offer all sizes of business 10 and 15-year timber treatment warranties, in addition to NHSS4 treatment in accordance with BS 8417," said Mr Eggleston.
