The Biffa Award Welcome Building, which was opened by the Duchess of Cornwall, is a single-storey structure designed in a curve to draw in visitors before moving to the wider landscape.

Simon Pearson, associate architect at Glenn Howells Architects, said the practice was “very proud to be adding value to such an historic and internationally renowned site”.

The opening of the building marks the launch of the second phase of Westonbirt’s plans for a new Treetop Walkway, built to transport visitors up into the tree canopy.
