If snow doesn’t fall in Sweden this winter, SCA Forest Products will make its own.
Snow cannons are on standby at Bogrundet tree nursery in northern Sweden – ready to cover delicate saplings with a protective layer of snow.
Bogrundet, the largest tree nursery of its kind in the world, grows 50 million saplings a year.
The saplings’ roots need protection from severe falls in temperature. If the temperature falls to -20OC and no natural snow has fallen, the cannons will create a protective layer of snow to a depth of 30cm.
