Hurtling around race tracks in a 140-mph Porsche 968CS has become something of an obsession for Ian Croft, managing director of Cambridgeshire-based Rotherwood Machinery Ltd.

And for the first time in his 10-year motor racing career he is beginning to experience the heady sensation of success. He has recently won classes in the Michelin Porsche Cup at Snetterton, Donington and Oulton Park.

The present race series culminates at Silverstone in September and Ian is quietly confident of being in the frame. But, he says, his biggest problem is finding enough money to keep going and he is now seeking sponsors. ‘It costs around £25,000 to do an entire season at circuits around the country,’ he explained, ‘and that works out to around £900 a race.

‘It makes a great day out where companies can entertain their clients and get good value for money.’

Family-owned Rotherwood has been supplying machinery for the past 23 years, specialising in veneer panel work. Ian can be contacted on 01480 309800.
