Timber trade “poet” Chris Porcas has hit another milestone in his creative ambitions by publishing his first book of poetry.
Chris, the managing director of Forestrall which has sites in Dartford and Medway, has brought out The Road to Poetry in paperback and Kindle eBook on Amazon. The book contains 113 poems.
His passion for poetry was brought before the national timber trade stage when he recited The Accidental Timber Merchant at the London Softwood Club annual Christmas lunch in December 2023 in front of 200 people. The poem charted Chris’ journey into the timber trade.
The appearance, just months after taking up the pastime, has been followed by appearances at pubs and clubs in Kent.
“There are several timber-related poems in my debut book, including Rigan Season, Dirty Blarney Stop-Out, Sapele’s Odyssey and, of course, The Accidental Timber Merchant,” said Chris.
“I am planning Road to Poetry 2 for the spring of 2025, and I continue to read my poetry regularly in clubs, pubs, bars and on most social media platforms.”
Chris recently started his own website www.ChrisPorcasPoetry.co.uk with a regularly updated blog of his activities on there. He has also worked with a local musician on his first song, an adaptation of his autobiographical poem Through the Looking Glass, while he is also considering plans to both start a band and a podcast.
“My poetry has developed into a soul-warming social pursuit to complement my continued love of helping the customers of Forestrall Timber Merchants to get their “Timber on Time, Every Time!”
“I believe that – just like poetry – solving customers’ construction or DIY headaches/dreams can be a healing process in itself.”
