It is gratifying to see that the structural timber system sector is now represented in the annual TTJ Awards.
As a volume user of timber, our sector plays an important part of the overall industry and it is therefore fitting that we are included.
As advocates of the TTJ Awards, the STA is delighted to be associated with the new category for Structural Timber Systems Supplier of the Year.
We firmly believe that engineered timber technology addresses many government concerns and outweighs other construction sectors in regard to volume of materials. Shortages in other traditional construction materials will continue to encourage larger builders and specifiers to look towards alternatives.
The year 2015 proved to be successful for the structural timber sector in terms of house building in the UK – showing an 8.1% increase over the previous year’s results and the second best performing year for timber frame since data began to be collected in 2002.
Our sector is quick to respond and can add capacity at a relatively rapid rate to meet demand.
We’re geared up and ready to go – I believe the time is right for the construction industry to embrace innovative timber technology and offsite techniques to develop better buildings at a rapid rate to meet government targets, to overcome the shortfall in housing stock and produce energy-efficient buildings.
