Wallis Joinery of Maidstone recently installed a challenging piece of decorative carpentry in the atrium of a mixed development in Holborn built by Kier London.

The handcrafted decorative screen, which is 13m high and 5m wide, was manufactured in sustainable red western cedar by Wallis Joinery’s sister company, Moss Joinery, at its Cheltenham workshop.

The structure, technically demanding because of its size and complex shape, took six carpenters 10 weeks to craft by hand.

It was pre-assembled horizontally during manufacture to ensure that each of the 121 curved fins fitted perfectly together, intersecting the six vertical spars.
