More than 400,000m3 of excess timber is due to be exported by the Zambia Forestry and Forest Industries Corporation (ZAFFICO).

The company said that only 200,000m3 of timber has been harvested from a 600,000m3 allowable cut.

Contractors are being sought to fell timber bound for a United Arab Emirates contract.

Other countries to which Zambian timber is exported include Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

A recent inventory has shown that ZAFFICO has 50,000ha of trees and the company is looking for investors to use the forests and increase harvest.
