New launches and updates have kept Wood Campus, the UK timber industry’s free online learning and information site, more relevant than ever, with usership up threefold on 2018 and set to break the 100,000 barrier by the end of this year.

New material for 2019 includes:

  • Swedish Wood video: This short video shows how using Swedish wood can reduce plastic pollution and climate heating, ‘Thank Goodness There’s Wood’.
  • Fire Safety and FR-treated Timber course: This free online CPD course for Building Control, specifiers and the whole supply chain was developed with the Wood Protection Association in co-operation with Local Authority Building Control.
  • Fire safety: There’s now a section within the Knowledge Centre where you’ll find all our information about fire safety in one place
  • Online calculator: This online calculator lets you work out areas, volumes and lengths, angles and pitches at the touch of a button.

Updates for 2019 include:

  • Revisions to CLT and cladding: All CLT and cladding learning material has been updated to reflect the latest changes to building regulations with regard to fire safety; this is particularly important for all parts of the supply chain and relates to less well known applications, such as interior cladding as well as external timber.
  • Updated Builders’ app: This indispensable tool for builders and DIY carpenters that calculates quantities, volumes, surface areas, angles and joist and beam spans has been revised and updated to make it even easier to use. And downloads have doubled since last year, with over 10,000 downloads to date.

The Wood Campus Award in Timber Merchanting, which was launched two years ago, has established its place at the heart of timber merchanting as a unique, fully accredited, Level 3 online learning course. The Award requires over 39 hours of eLearning tuition, combined with further reading, leading to a Level 3 certificate issued by OAL for those who complete the online assessment successfully.

The individual price of the certificated Award course is just £150, although group discounts are available. Wood Campus is a Swedish Wood initiative developed in co-operation with the UK timber industry. It provides a range of information, inspiration and learning tools for DIY, architects and trade users of wood – including an iPhone and android smartphone app.
