The production process at a moveable wall system manufacturer takes a quarter of the time it used to since the installation of a new machining centre.

Sussex-based Duvale has taken delivery of the second Saom machining centre in the UK, installed by Interwood, and what once took 20 minutes using hand tools now takes only four minutes.

The five tonne machine has a 12mm plate steel base and gantry, stiffened by internal steel cross bracing along its full length which prevents vibration.

The S-32 drives a 10HP router that links up with an eight-position brass tool changer adjacent to the gantry, enabling fast tool change while the machine is in use.

The machine bed is a 3200x1250mm Rexilon vacuum matrix table which Duvale uses in conjunction with an MDF slave board, thus avoiding the need for jogs and other fixtures.

Other features include back and side stops for workplace positioning, a 140m²/hr vacuum pump and auto-lubrication to all guides.

The machine costs around £50,000.
