The installation of remote video monitoring technology at Sonae UK‘s Challenger plant at Knowsley, Liverpool is already paying dividends.

The system – V-serve from DMICROS.COMputers – has improved safety, security and manpower deployment at the particleboard plant. The 23ha production facility is monitored via 12 cameras and the footage enables the company to identify and resolve potential problems on the production line and keep records of events.

Plant manager Rodney Mitchell said: ‘Following the installation of V-serve technology, a blockage in one of the suction pipes was discovered and the machinery was stopped after five minutes.

‘Previously it would have taken much longer to be detected and resolved, by which point it would have created a huge fire risk. By reviewing the video images, we can identify what exactly occurred and why it happened.’
