A two-and-a-half year rolling programme of improvement at its 17 branches has been completed by south-east independent merchant Alsford Timber.

The company’s Sheen Lane, Mortlake branch was relaunched yesterday. Improvements include a new shop and offices and the introduction of a service mill facility.

Managing director John Griffiths said the improvement programme across all branches had cost ‘a substantial amount of money’.

At Mortlake a bandsaw, planer and board saw have been installed in the mill to improve customer service.

The shop is now about five times bigger, enabling the introduction of more core products, and the warehouse layout has been changed.

British junior snowboard champion Charlotte Dutton officially opened the new facility.
