Euroforest, a leading UK independent provider of timber harvesting and marketing services, has devised a flexible partnership scheme aimed at bringing forward increased timber volumes from the private sector.

Launched at a Gleneagles Hotel luncheon in Scotland to celebrate the company’s 10th anniversary, ‘wood-link’ allows individual owners to choose their own approach to the marketing of their timber within the scheme, ranging from the traditional spot market sale, through index-linked sales with prices governed by market movements, to commitment of all production from a plantation. The owner makes the decision when to market, according to Euroforest.

To join, woodland owners simply have to ‘bank’ marketing plan information with Euroforest and exchange letters of intent.

Speaking at Gleneagles, company managing director Tony Willis said: ‘Wood-link is not a straight-jacket, it’s not a contract – it’s a true partnership. The key to the scheme is flexibility. Wood-link allows the client to take account of current market conditions.’

Transparency was ensured, he added, by an open book costing system.

According to Euroforest, wood-link taps directly into a private timber grower market which is expected to provide the engine for sector growth over coming years.
