Composite beam, timber frame and panel product makers will be among key beneficiaries of BM TRADA Certification‘s new authority to issue European Technical Approvals (ETA).

The company was given the ETA green light by the DETR, becoming the third body in the UK – the others are BBA and WIMLAS – to be authorised

According to BM TRADA Certification managing director Hugh Taylor, most construction products will have to comply to a harmonised standard to meet the European Construction Products Directive. However, there are a number of exceptions in the timber industry where no standard exists. For these products, a European Technical Approval is the recognised means of demonstrating conformity.

‘BM TRADA becoming an official ETA issuing body is particularly significant for manufacturers of such products as composite beams, timber frame kits and panel products,’ said Mr Taylor.
