SystemTM highlighted two important recent strategic moves on its Ligna stand.

The first was the introduction of its opti-kap 2000 cross-cut saw series, targeted at companies with small to medium capacity requirements.

‘Its designed to be very fast and reliable – cutting at 50m per minute – but it’s at a lower price point to target the smaller user,’ commented System TM’s Birgitte Berg. ‘It marks a departure for System TM. So far we’ve focused on the higher capacity customer.’

The opti-cap 2001 is an optimising line, which measures incoming board and sets cutting lengths to a preset list; the 2002 includes defect cutting with manual marking and the 2003 includes a scanner for detecting knots and defects.

System TM’s second key focus was its automatic grading, sorting and stacking line for timber flooring manufacturers. The system, incorporating robotised handling, scans and separates out flooring strip grades and can be augmented with automatic palletising equipment. It handles hardwood and softwood strips over 225mm at a rate of seven per minute.

‘The system could replace between 3-15 people on a production line,’ said Ms Berg. ‘With the rapid growth of flooring demand in Europe, and the increase in competition from lower labour cost countries, we see great potential for it.’
