The visual strength grading expertise of TRADA has been exported to Germany.
Mark Hughes of TRADA Technology has been training graders to BS 4978 at the Schwaiger sawmill. They are now all registered by BM TRADA Certification.
The Bavarian mill handles European whitewood logs and delivery to the UK and Ireland is handled by Baho GmbH and Balfour Timber in Kent.
Mr Hughes said: ‘Gaining UK registration for its graders will add to the company’s strength in the UK market.’
The mill produces green timber for the German construction market, but wants to increase exports to the UK which requires dry graded material.
Mr Hughes said: ‘This certification will open up the UK market for their products such as joists and roof rafters. Rather than just offering carcassing they can now offer kiln dried stamped timber.’
