Interwood Ltd, the UK’s longest surviving woodworking machinery distributor, is going into liquidation.
The company, which has traded since 1928, ceased to trade on October 31 and a meeting of Interwood’s creditors is being convened.
For joint managing directors Michael and Rodney Farmer the closing of Interwood’s doors is ‘not without sadness’.
Interwood’s demise is the latest in a list of independent distributors that have been lost. It is attributed to changing trends and an increasing emphasis by global manufacturers on setting up their own regional sales offices.
Messrs Farmer said: ‘One thing we are not going to be is a phoenix. Once we’ve gone, we’ve gone for good.’
